Rep. Laurie Halverson announces she won't seek re-election

Rep. Laurie Halverson (DFL-Eagan) on Monday said she will not to seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

In a statement, Halverson thanked her constituents for the trust they have placed in her over the past eight years, saying it was her honor to serve the people of Eagan.

“Thanks to their support, I have successfully led initiatives to protect the health of all Minnesotans — especially children and our most vulnerable residents, create jobs and economic development, and support hardworking people and their families,” Halverson said. “I plan to continue working on these issues and others that are important to the people of my community.”

House Speaker Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) thanked Halverson for her work on issues such as health care and economic security for families through paid family and medical leave legislation

“We will miss her considerable talents and leadership in the Minnesota House of Representatives,” Hortman said.

House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler (DFL-Golden Valley) echoed those sentiments.

“Laurie Halverson is a dedicated public servant, and our state is better off because of her service,” he said. “In addition to her work in health care, she has been a tireless advocate for our students and a champion for election integrity and reform measures. We wish her well in all of her future endeavors.”

First elected to the House in 2012, Halverson currently serves as chair of the House Commerce Committee and as Speaker Pro Tempore of the House. She is also a member of the House Health and Human Services Finance Division, and the elections subcommittee.

Halverson is now the 13th member to announce they will not seek re-election to the House in November.
