Lawmakers learned this week they have a projected $1.5 billion surplus to work with over the next few months. But it remains to be seen whether the state’s good financial news will make their jobs easier or more difficult.
The House also passed a few high-profile bills this week to address issues such as insulin availability and cost, as well as a pair of firearms changes and voter data protection.
More important issues are scheduled be discussed in the days to come in what is shaping up to be a very busy next week. In addition to the regular House schedule, evening hearings are becoming more frequent, especially on days when no floor sessions are held.
Next Wednesday, March 4, already stands out, with a note on the public safety division webpage letting attendees know members will likely reconvene after their regular afternoon meeting and should “expect” to meet until midnight. The House Capital Investment Division may also have a late night, with an evening hearing that lists nearly 40 bills on the agenda.
But before we look too far ahead, here’s one last look at the last week.
