Starting Line: Should the Sentencing Guideline Commission be added to state constitution?

In 1978, Minnesota became the first state in the nation to create a sentencing guidelines commission. For roughly four decades the commission has worked to develop fair and consistent sentencing standards to promote public safety and reduce disparity in sentencing practices throughout the state.

To raise awareness of the commission, and avoid any potential political theatre, Rep. Carlos Mariani (DFL-St. Paul) has put forth a proposal that would add the sentencing guidelines commission to the state constitution. Learn more in this week's edition of Starting Line.
