Jeremy Munson will become the newest member of the House of Representatives after winning Monday’s District 23B special election.
The Republican defeated DFL challenger Melissa Wagner garnering 59.2 percent of the 6,658 votes cast.
House Speaker Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) congratulated Munson in a statement Monday night.
“Voters in House District 23B elected a leader who will hit the ground running later this month, maintaining our historic 77 member House Republican Majority,” Daudt said. “I look forward to him joining our team at the Capitol as we continue work to lower health care costs and grow good-paying jobs across the state.”
A graduate of the University of Minnesota Crookston, Munson is a small-business owner and consultant who lives on a farm near Lake Crystal with his wife and two children.
The special election was called after former Rep. Tony Cornish (R-Vernon Center) resigned in November amid allegations of sexual misconduct. District 23B is in south-central Minnesota and includes parts of Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Waseca and Watonwan counties.
Munson’s office will be 421 State Office Building, and his phone number will be 651-296-4240.
No swearing-in date has been set. Committee assignments have yet to be announced.
