House Republicans Call on Biden Administration, Governor Walz to Address Border Crisis

Friday, January 26, 2024

ST. PAUL —Minnesota House Republicans are calling on the Biden Administration and Governor Tim Walz to take immediate action to address the crisis at the southern border. Governor Walz was noticeably absent from a letter the Democrat governors of Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York recently sent to President Biden and Congress urging them to pass a border security package.

“As members of the Minnesota House of Representatives, we are urging Governor Walz, as chair of the Democratic Governors Association, to join with his fellow Democrat governors in calling on the Biden Administration to address the growing humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border. Border security is no longer a problem for only the states who share a border with Mexico. It is now an emergency that impacts every part of the United States.  Instead of taking Texas to court, President Biden and Gov. Walz should be working with Texas and all border states to secure our Northern and Southern borders.

“We see the impacts of the Biden Administration’s failed border policies every day in Minnesota. Our state, county, and local charitable human services resources are increasingly strained. Fentanyl is poisoning Minnesotans, leading to countless tragedies. We need real leadership now to stop the humanitarian and national security catastrophe that President Biden has created at the southern border.

“Governor Walz should consider all options available to support Minnesotans and all Americans who are impacted by this crisis and ensure security at our country's borders.”

The statement was signed by Reps. Lisa Demuth, Paul Torkelson, Pam Altendorf, Patti Anderson, Paul Anderson, Jeff Backer, Dave Baker, Peggy Bennett, Matt Bliss, John Burkel, Brian Daniels, Greg Davids, Ben Davis, Jeff Dotseth, Elliott Engen, Marj Fogelman, Mary Franson, Pat Garofalo, Dawn Gillman, Bobbie Harder, Josh Heintzeman, Shane Hudella, Walter Hudson, Steven Jacob, Brian Johnson, Jim Joy, Deb Kiel, Krista Knudsen, Joe McDonald, Tom Murphy, Jim Nash, Nathan Nelson, Anne Neu Brindley, Harry Niska, Tim O'Driscoll, Bjorn Olson, Bernie Perriman, John Petersburg, Kristin Robbins, Isaac Schultz, Peggy Scott, Roger Skraba, Dean Urdahl, and Natalie Zeleznikar.
