Legislative Update - The 2020 Legislative Session is Here

Thursday, February 13, 2020

Rep. Lippert

Dear Neighbors,

The Minnesota Legislature is back, and with this year being a shorter session, we’re hitting the ground running. Thank you to everyone that came out for our district-wide Town Hall Tour. We had many amazing conversations throughout our community, and I’m looking forward to bringing your concerns and ideas back to St. Paul. The Northfield News covered part of our tour, which you can read about here.

Much of last session was focused on our constitutional duty to set a state budget, and despite being one of the only divided state legislatures in the nation, we were able to come together and compromise. This year, I’m optimistic we can find consensus again as we craft a “Bonding Bill” that invests in infrastructure and community projects across the state, including the City of Northfield’s proposed regional transit hub. You can find a full list of issues that legislators in the House and Senate will be focusing on, here.

For my colleagues and I in the House DFL, we’re doubling down on our efforts to deliver on the things Minnesotans value, like the things we discussed in Lonsdale, Montgomery, and Northfield last weekend.

Soil Health Education Grants

Next week, there will be a hearing on my Farmer to Farmer Soil Health Education grants bill. In my conversations with farmers about farming practices that improve soil health, improve water quality, and sequester carbon, farmers stressed the importance of technical support to reduce risk. This bill will support farmers talking to other farmers to share how to implement these practices that have multiple benefits for farmers and the environment.

Stay Connected

For those that want to stay plugged in to the daily happenings in St. Paul, the nonpartisan House Public Information Services will be providing updated schedules, live feeds of committee hearings, and the ever-changing status of bills. You can also “like” my official Facebook page, “follow” me on twitter, or subscribe and share these email updates.

These first days back serve as a great reminder of how much of an immense honor it is to represent you in the Minnesota House. As I split time between our community and St. Paul for the next few months, please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you may have on the legislative process. I can be reached at (651) 296-0171 or rep.todd.lippert@house.mn. I look forward to hearing from you.
