SAINT PAUL, MINN. – House DFL Leader Paul Thissen released the following statement about a potential special session to address the unfinished work of the 2016 session:
“Minnesotans are frustrated that the legislature did not get the job done. Yet instead of taking any responsibility, Speaker Daudt continues to play the blame game. Minnesotans are tired of excuses. They want results.
We are supportive of Governor Dayton’s parameters for a special session and agree that we should work to reach consensus on a long-term transportation package. That was everyone’s top priority heading in to session and it would be a failure if the House Republicans walked away from a compromise.
Lastly, if there is going to be a special session we believe there must be transparency and public involvement – not just negotiations with leaders behind closed doors. As the multiple errors in the tax bill and bonding bill show, we are not at our best as a legislature when the public is shut out.
We should listen to Minnesotans, roll up our sleeves, and get to work.”
