Simonson announces he’ll seek Senate seat in ‘16

Rep. Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) said he will run for a Minnesota Senate seat this year and that he will not seek the DFL nomination in House District 7B.

In the midst of his second House term, Simonson announced on social media Tuesday he plans to campaign for the Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Roger Reinert (DFL-Duluth). Reinert said in a statement Sunday that he would not seek re-election following two terms in the Senate and one term in the House.

Simonson was first elected to the House in 2012. He serves on the House Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance Committee, House Taxes Committee and the House Property Tax and Local Government Finance Division.
