Annual DOLI bill updates labor licensing/bonding requirements

The Department of Labor and Industry annually puts forward a bill that lays out needed language changes in law for areas the department oversees.

This session’s bill, HF1549/SF1371*, was passed 78-44 by the House Friday. It now moves to the governor. The measure was passed by the Senate 64-0 on May 11.

Rep. Marion O'Neill (R-Maple Lake) sponsors the bill with Sen. Dan Sparks (DFL-Austin).

Highlights of this year’s bill include:

·       changes to bond requirements for licensed contractors;

·       establishment of review procedures for courses intended for licensees;

·       setting a time for review of the state building codes to every six years;

·       changing the definition of martial arts to recognize more disciplines; and

·       ratification of the Interstate Compact on Industrialized/Modular Buildings.
