A compromise that would carve out exemptions to the Radon Licensing Act and reduce some license fees was passed 131-0 by the House.
HF3944 now heads to the Senate, where a companion bill has not been introduced.
Sponsored by Rep. Tim Sanders (R-Blaine), the bill was amended during floor debate so that it would make changes to the licensing and enforcement of laws related to indoor radon in homes and other buildings.
Sanders said he’d heard from people who install radon mitigation systems, and all those touched by the work they do, that the legislation needed to be tweaked.
“It was too cumbersome and it didn’t really address the issues,” Sanders said.
In light of those conversations, Sanders said he’d worked with officials from the Department of Health to find solutions acceptable to all concerned.
Sanders has been working to amend the licensing act since it was passed by the Legislature in 2015.
