Long sought-after athletic trainer reform is headed to the governor.
Rep. Mary Franson (R-Alexandria), who sponsors HF882/SF614* with Sen. Jim Abeler (R-Anoka), said the bill would shift athletic trainers from a registration system to a licensure system, and is the result of six years of work.
Franson said this would better protect the public, in part because potential trainers are now required to complete a background check in order to receive a license.
It was passed 123-4 by the House Thursday. The Senate passed it 65-0 on May 3.
