Representative Michael Paymar was first elected in 1996 to serve District 64B in the Minnesota House of Representatives. District 64B consists primarily of the Highland Park, Macalester-Groveland, and West 7th Street neighborhoods of St. Paul.

Minnesota House of Representatives Chair, Public Safety Finance and Policy Division which has financial oversight over the Department of Corrections, Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Homeland Security, Department of Human Rights, Fire Marshall and crime victim programs.
