LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM REP. ERIK MORTENSEN - DISTRICT 55A

Saturday, March 19, 2022

Saturday, March 19th 2022 --

DEMOCRATS REFUSE TO HELP MINNESOTA BUSINESSES

This week we once again addressed the mounting issue of replenishing the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund. The commissioners warned us that if this wasn’t solved by Tuesday then there would be huge consequences. Nearly everyone supported this bill including the Governor, Senate Republicans, Senate Democrats, and Republicans in the House. This could have been easily passed had the Democrats in the House not blocked it.

Republicans forced several votes on this issue, but every time the DFL-controlled house refused to help Minnesota businesses by failing to act and not allowing this to be resolved. As a result, we are going to see massive tax increases for our businesses which have already suffered for the last two years under these lockdowns.

HF4294

On Monday I introduced a new bill, HF4294, that would allow campaign committees to donate some of their funds to scholarships for students in their districts. Currently, this is unlawful, but I think this is a great way to give back to the community.

STATE OFFICE BUILDING OPENS

On Monday, March 21st, the State Office Building opens at 8 AM. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of you down here from 12-2 PM. This is a perfect opportunity for you to have your voice heard and to confront the pro lockdown and the pro mandate legislators. Be sure they know you have not forgotten what they have done to you the past two years.

If you would like to schedule an appointment, my office hours will be Monday 12-2 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday all day until 4:30 PM.
