Neighbors and Friends, This week in the Housing Finance & Policy committee, we continued to discuss Housing priorities throughout the state. With our historic projected surplus, we must do all we can to provide affordable, available housing across Minnesota. You can watch Housing committee action on the House of Representatives’ YouTube Channel. This afternoon I met with representatives from the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics during their 2022 Day at the Capitol. They were advocating for strong food and nutrition policy to ensure Minnesotans have access to safe and healthy food. Almanac at the Capitol Almanac at the Capitol is broadcasting a series of interviews with members who are retiring at the end of 2022. You can tune in to watch my interview here. Supporting Ukraine In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, on Thursday the Minnesota House unanimously passed broadly bipartisan legislation divesting Minnesota’s state pensions of Russian and Belarusian assets, and codifying Governor Walz’s Executive Order barring Minnesota from contracting with Russian companies. Minnesotans have watched the unfolding horror in Ukraine. While so many are wondering what they can do, the legislature has passed this measure, standing with Ukrainians to reject Russia’s brutal dictator. We did the right thing for the 17,000 Ukrainian-Americans who call Minnesota home and for all democracies worldwide. You can read more about the bill here and a video recording of the floor debate can be found on the House Public Information YouTube channel.
