Legislative Update - February 27, 2019

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

Neighbors and Friends,

The legislative schedule is intensifying and many committees have added evening hearings to meet the first mid-March deadline. Here is an update from the Capitol:

Time flies during the legislative session and all of our calendars fill up with committee hearings, events, visitors and floor sessions. To give you an idea of the diversity of visitors to my office, this is just a brief list of appointments Tuesday and Wednesday of this week sprinkled between legislative business: Mounds View Education Association Teachers on the Hill, Land Stewardship, Library Association, Muslims Day on the Hill, IBEW, African Heritage Day, Epilepsy Day on the Hill, NARAL Pro-Choice, YMCA Advocacy Day, ClearWay Capitol Day.

This week, Governor Walz laid out his Bonding priorities. Among them was $150 million for housing across the state. I chair the Housing Finance and Policy Division and issued this statement.  Here is a full list of the Governor’s projects.

At the National Governor’s Association annual winter meeting, Gov. Walz weighed in on housing challenges for an article in MarketWatch.

Earlier this week, I joined Sen. Marty and others to introduce an

anti-poverty legislative package. For more on this proposal, click here.

Pioneer Public Television invited me to be a panelist on the Your Legislators program last week. As always, it was helpful to hear perspectives of other legislators on important issues we are addressing this session.
