MN House of Representatives Housing Committee hears from Minnesota Housing on rental assistance funding

Tuesday, January 26, 2021

St. Paul, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives Housing Finance and Policy Committee heard from Minnesota Housing on rental assistance and the CARES Act.

Minnesota Housing presented an outline of data they are examining from those who received housing assistance through the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program (CHAP). The exact amount of federal funds allocated to Minnesota is still being analyzed but Minnesota Housing presented the information to prepare committee members about who will be eligible for the assistance program when the funding is received.

Rep. Alice Hausman (DFL-St. Paul), committee chair, released this statement:

β€œThe information we received today was helpful for the committee to hear as we work through those we have helped through CHAP and those who will need immediate housing assistance through the incoming federal funding. Many Minnesotans are at risk of missing a rent or mortgage payment and we simply must do all we can to prevent some of our neighbors from losing the very stability that moves them forward. Our committee will continue to work with our private and public partners on the effort to make sure all eligible Minnesotans are getting the information they need to help them through this crisis.”
