Legislative E-Update - Bell Museum

Thursday, July 20, 2017

Neighbors and Friends,

Since ground was broken on the new, state-of-the-art Bell Museum and Planetarium in April, 2016, construction has occurred at a steady pace and the lot continues to transform as the new facility takes shape.  Last week, we were taken on a hard hat tour and received our first look at the classroom funded by the Lillian Wright & Emil Berglund Foundation, overlooking the pollinator garden. I am a member of that board.

The new museum is designed with bird-safe glass and many Minnesota-made materials. The museum uses the latest technology, updated dioramas, and includes an area for outdoor learning.

Our tour last week included the new Touch & See Lab available to all ages to learn through sight, sound and participation.

As construction continues, check in on the progress by clicking here.

The museum is scheduled to open in July 2018.

Homes for All Film

Next Thursday, July 27, as part of the “Our Homes, Our Voices” week of action, the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless will host a screening of the film “Sold Out: Affordable Housing at Risk.” The film reveals the price we all pay when families are pushed out of our communities as modestly priced apartment units are replaced with upscale developments.

You are invited to our local viewing of the film next Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Habitat for Humanity, 1954 University Avenue West.

State Capitol Grand Opening Celebration
