REP. JACOB OPPOSES MORE BILLS INFRINGING ON YOUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS

Thursday, March 21, 2024

ST. PAUL – The recent killings of a paramedic and two police officers in Burnsville has led House Democrats to revive their efforts to limit your 2nd Amendment rights, according to State Representative Steve Jacob (R-Altura).

“Over the past year, we have watched as Democrats in the legislature have empowered the criminals while restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens,” Jacob said. “These actions are not only unfair, but unrealistic.”

Last year, Democrats – who control both bodies of the legislature and the governor’s office - enacted “universal” background checks and red flag confiscation orders. Now, Jacob said they are looking to further compromise our 2nd Amendment rights with legislation that establishes an arbitrary deadline for reporting lost and stolen firearms; and a bill that makes changes to how firearms must be stored in the home.

“Do they really think that if the Burnsville suspect’s guns had been stored according to this new DFL legislation that the emergency responders would not have been shot?” Jacob wondered. “The Democrats are exploiting a tragedy in order to pander to the most extreme portions of their gun-hating base.”

Jacob said rather than inventing new ways to further burden law-abiding gun owners, Democrats should join House Republicans in trying to hold criminals responsible for their actions and enforce the many gun laws already on the books.

“People have the right to defend themselves and protect their families,” Jacob said. “Residents should know I will always stand strong for the 2nd Amendment.”
