Capitol Newsletter from Rep. Donald Raleigh

Friday, April 22, 2022

Dear Neighbors,

The legislature has returned from its Easter/Passover break ready for what’s sure to be a busy final month of the 2022 legislative session. I hope you had a blessed holiday and were able to spend time with family, friends, and loved ones.

Major supplemental budget bills will start to make their way to the House floor next week as we begin taking votes. The bills reflect the priorities of the House Democrat majority and there are individual policies in each of these bills that I would support on their own merits. Unfortunately, as is the case with many omnibus bills, there are spending and policy provisions tucked inside each bill that will make it difficult to support the majority of these proposals.

As we look at the entirety of their budget proposal, Democrats are seeking to spend the majority of the state’s $9 billion budget surplus on growing the size of government.

In fact, their budget proposes $21 in new government spending for every $1 in tax cuts.

This is unacceptable.

As your representative, I will never lose sight that this surplus belongs to you, the hardworking taxpayers of Minnesota. To that end, I continue to work as hard as possible to make sure that you and your family receive the tax relief that you deserve.

All of us are struggling as inflation continues to impact our family budgets. We see it everywhere including grocery prices, gas prices, home heating/energy bills, and more. That’s why we need to put the surplus back in your pocket.

I will continue to keep you updated on things as we begin to debate and vote on these bills. Until then, I encourage you to reach out to me to share your thoughts, questions, and concerns. You can reach me at rep.donald.raleigh@house.mn or via phone at 651-296-2907.

Stay Strong and Stay Free!
