Capitol Newsletter from Rep. Spencer Igo

Friday, February 16, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

The 2024 legislative session is officially underway, and it is good to be back in St. Paul representing you, your family, and our region in the legislature. While there are many challenges facing Minnesota including a future projected budget deficit, I am nevertheless committed to continue fighting for our communities and region.

This includes tackling permitting reform, supporting responsible mining opportunities, and working to lower the financial burden that families are feeling due to high levels of inflation. Together, we can build a strong regional economy that supports families now and into the future.

I am working hard on an expedited fix to changes in law made last year that resulted in School Resource Officers (SROs) being removed from many schools across Minnesota. Despite our best efforts to get a bill passed on the very first day of session, we have been slowed once again by fractures in the House Democrat caucus. I am nevertheless committed to a bipartisan solution that gives schools and law enforcement the clarification they need to keep our schools safe.
