RELEASE: Rep. Igo Helps Local Nursing Homes Secure Increased Funding

Monday, August 28, 2023

ST. PAUL – Local nursing homes have started to receive shares of the $300 million infusion in state funding Rep. Spencer Igo, R-Wabana Township, supported and the Legislature provided last May.

Igo said the funding is a step toward stabilizing Minnesota’s struggling long-term care industry, with nursing homes closing across the state and others on the financial brink. Families are waiting months and looking up to four hours away to find a safe place for loved ones, he said, indicating a worker shortage has left around 25 percent of nursing home caregiver jobs vacant.

“Long-term care facilities provide crucial and compassionate services to families and their loved ones here in the Northland,” said Igo. “Sadly, many of these facilities around Minnesota have been struggling with rising operating costs and a workforce shortage. These emergency dollars will help fill in the funding gaps and make sure that they can continue to provide care. Moving forward, I am committed to finding solutions that address the structural challenges facing providers in the Northland and across Minnesota.”

Funding for local care providers includes:

Deer River Health Care Center, Deer River:

  • Total Payment: $353,528
  • August 1, 2023: $176,764
  • August 1, 2024: $176,764

Guardian Angels Health and Rehab, Hibbing:

  • Total Payment: $526,238
  • August 1, 2023: $263,119
  • August 1, 2024: $263,119
