Rep. Keeler’s legislation funding a psychiatric treatment facility in Clay County heard in Capital Investment Committee

Wednesday, March 27, 2024

St. Paul, MN - Today, the House Capital Investment Committee heard testimony on Rep. Heather Keeler’s (DFL - Moorhead) bill to invest $10 million in state bonds for a psychiatric residential treatment facility in Clay County. The bill, House File 4204, would fund the design, construction, and equipment for the facility.

“An investment in mental health, from border to border, is crucial for building a better Minnesota. In the conversations I’ve had in our community, it’s clear a facility like this would not only be a benefit to Clay County, but the entire region,” said Rep. Keeler. “The lack of mental health support, especially for our kids, needs to be addressed, and with only four of these facilities in the entire state, we’re overdue for a new one.”

Psychiatric residential treatment facilities provide active treatment at an inpatient care level to youth under the age of 21 that have complex mental health needs. These facilities provide for comprehensive coordinated care in a highly structured living environment.

The legislation is supported by 19 counties and 3 tribal nations Video of today’s testimony can be found on the House Public Information YouTube channel.
