Legislative Update - Getting Ready for 2024

Thursday, December 14, 2023
Rep. Noor

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for the incredible honor of serving our Minneapolis community in the Minnesota House of Representatives. This year, for the first time in a decade, we were able to move past gridlock and work together under DFL leadership to make some of the most robust investments in Minnesota’s families our state has ever seen.

Together, we addressed our housing crisis, made major moves towards clean energy, delivered the largest tax cut in state history, prioritized our students, expanded voting rights, strengthened gun violence prevention measures, legalized adult-use cannabis, funded major infrastructure improvements, and passed a whole host of investments and policies that are making Minnesota a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

For my part as Chair of the House Human Services Finance Committee, I’m especially proud of our work to deliver a record amount of funding, not just to our state’s nursing homes, but to the Minnesotans who care for our state’s most vulnerable - workers who were long overdue for a raise. We secured over $2 billion in wage increases to caregivers, over $20 million to address the opioid epidemic, and $18.8 million to increase health provider capacity in underserved communities.

We still have new laws that have yet to be enacted! Paid Family Leave and others go into effect in the new year, which you can read about here

It’s not enough to rest on our laurels - it’s time to build on these successes and continue our efforts to make Minnesota a leader in building a more prosperous future. Looking ahead to the 2024 legislative session, we’re hoping to hear more perspectives and feedback from Minnesotans. As part of this effort, I’d appreciate it if you took part in the new Minnesota Values Project survey.

You can take the survey by clicking this link.

The survey only takes a few minutes, and as we build a shared vision for our state, your input is crucial in this process. I look forward to hearing from you.

The Cold Weather Rule

As we near the end of the year, and cold weather sets in, a quick reminder that Minnesota’s “cold weather rule” is now in effect, which protects residents from having their electric or natural gas service shut off between October 1 and April 30.

Cold Weather Rule

To ensure your service is safe from disconnection, you must make and keep a payment plan that you and your utility provider agree on. More information is available on the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s website
