SATURDAY: Majority Leader Winkler, DFL legislators to meet with Worthington community members ahead of school referendum 

St. Paul, Minn - On Saturday, Majority Leader Ryan Winkler and Reps. Aisha Gomez, Fue Lee and Jay Xiong will travel to Worthington to discuss the November 5 school referendum with the immigrant community and local officials. Tuesday’s vote will be the sixth time in as many years that the school district will ask voters to approve funding to expand the schools. 

What: Worthington community events ahead of November 6 school referendum 
Who: Reps. Ryan Winkler, Aisha Gomez, Fue Lee and Jay Xiong, local elected officials, community leaders 
When and where: Saturday, November 2

  • 12 PM: Community Event in Worthington at St. Mary’s School, 1206 8th Ave., Worthington
  • 5 PM: Rep. Winkler will speak at a Día De Los Muertos event, First Lutheran Church, 719 6th Ave. S., St. James

The school referendum was profiled in a Sept. 22 Washington Post article, which highlighted the tension between some white residents and the immigrant community in Worthington, which has received more unaccompanied minors per capita than almost anywhere else in the country.
