Rep. Kelly Fenton Named to Select Committee Addressing Child Care Shortage, High Costs in Minnesota

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

ST. PAUL, MN—Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, announced Tuesday the formation of a Select Committee on Affordable Child Care. Rep. Kelly Fenton, R-Woodbury, was named to the select committee which will partner with providers and parents to facilitate solutions for more affordable child care choices for Minnesota families.

"Woodbury is a wonderful city for families, and the Select Committee on Affordable Child Care will work with parents and providers to ensure access to top-quality, affordable care in our community and in communities throughout Minnesota," said Rep. Fenton. "Our state is fortunate to have many fantastic child care providers who offer a place for our children to learn and grow, and I want to make sure all parents can have access and options for that type of exceptional care for their child."

Beginning in February, the select committee will tour Minnesota to hear from parents and providers about the challenges they face and partner with them to craft innovative solutions. According to data from the Department of Human Services, Minnesota has lost over 3,000 child care providers in the last decade.

"It's an honor to have been selected to this committee, and I hope for more input from families and child care providers in our community," added Rep. Fenton.
