Woodbury, MN— Rep. Kelly Fenton, R-Woodbury, issued the following statement regarding recent news that Red Rock Elementary School in Woodbury is receiving $136,025 in school safety grant funding. Last session, the Legislature approved and Governor Dayton signed into law $25 million in capital investment funds that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements. The Minnesota Department of Education is expected to formally announce the grant allocations in a news release.
“As a parent, former teacher, and legislator, I know it’s critical to keep kids safe in the classroom, and it’s why I championed a wide array of measures this year to address student safety and mental health,” said Rep. Fenton. “This grant funding gives our schools the funding and flexibility to make decisions that work best for their students, and I am pleased Red Rock was awarded this important grant. I will continue to advocate for measures that improve student learning, invest in education and put Minnesota kids first!”
The Legislature approved an additional $25 million in school safety grants as part of the supplemental budget bill, but those funds were vetoed by Governor Dayton.
