Minnesota is facing a $1.1 billion structural budget deficit, which balloons to over $2 billion when inflation is included. The state also still owes its K-12 schools another $1.1 billion.

Halverson. “Voters expect a legislature that moves past gridlock and focus the basics. We need a budget that adequately funds priorities like education and keeps our state economically competitive now and for the future.”

With a number of problems to address, Rep. Halverson has committed to bipartisanship and common-ground solutions.

“Minnesota has a rich history of working together to create long-lasting, positive solutions, but compromise and cooperation have been missing for quite some time at the Capitol,” added Rep. Halverson. “It’s time for a change and I’m ready bring the spirit of cooperation and compromise to St. Paul.”

Work will begin in legislative hearings over the coming weeks and months. This session Rep. Halverson will be serving as the Vice Chair of the Elections Committee and as a member of the Commerce and Consumer Protection Finance and Policy, and Health and Human Services Finance committees.

“These are important committees that deal with some of the issues my constituents care about most,” said Rep. Halverson. “I look forward to working on legislation in these areas.”
