Legislative Update from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

Friday, May 20, 2022

Dear Neighbors,

House Democrats and Gov. Walz are demanding billions in new spending in exchange for tax cuts!

We have a fully funded state budget, so there's no need for Democrats to be forcing billions in new permanent spending as a condition for tax cuts. Additionally, during the last two years, Minnesota received more than $80 billion in funding from the federal government in COVID relief funding.

Meanwhile, Minnesotans are struggling with the impacts of the Biden/Walz economy that has resulted in historic inflation, soaring gas prices, and a sputtering economy.

With a record-setting surplus I want to see more tax relief, and am opposed to the massive spending increases that Democrats are demanding. If they get their way, it will result in a 15% increase in spending compared to the previous budget — that's more than Democrats even spent when they had complete control of State Government.

I will keep fighting to send the surplus back to you!
