Release: Rep. Frank Hornstein announces he will not run for re-election to the Minnesota House

Friday, February 16, 2024

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Representative Frank Hornstein (DFL-Minneapolis), chair of the House Transportation Finance and Policy Committee, announced today he will not seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2024.

Rep. Hornstein released the following statement:

“I have made a very difficult decision to no longer seek re-election in 2024 to the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 61A. With this week's start of the legislative session, I have come to the realization that it is time to reorder my life's priorities and to pass the torch to new leadership after 22 years of legislative service.

“I deeply appreciate all of the support and encouragement I have received over the course of my legislative career. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Minneapolis, and I am proud of the work we have done together in the community and at the Capitol.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to the historic 2023 legislative session with our many achievements—especially the passage of a transformative transportation bill that was 20 years in the making.

“I want to thank my family for their incredible support over the years of my public service and to all those who volunteered and worked on my 11 campaigns for Minnesota House. I am grateful to my wonderful constituents who wrote letters, showed up at the Capitol, and in the community to express their opinions, offer advice, and participate in our sacred democratic process. Running for public office and serving in the state legislature is a team effort, and I am so thankful to all of my colleagues who have traveled with me on this journey.

“While I will no longer be serving in the legislature following the completion of my current term, I will continue to engage on the issues I have championed as a state legislator, including environmental and climate justice, sustainable transportation and human rights for all. There’s hope even in these challenging times when we fight together for a better world.”
