House roundup

Dear Neighbor,

Happy Mother's Day! Mothers deserve all the credit in the world for the job they do, so please take time to share your appreciation with them this weekend – especially those mothers who may be in an assisted living facility or are not in close proximity to family.

A thank you goes out to all that made the recent 20th annual Walk for Glendalough at Glendalough State Park in Battle Lake such a success. The weather was nice, attendance was strong and the park did well in its fundraising efforts. Families really seem to enjoy the park's new trail and a good number were riding bikes on it – and the less mobile took golf carts – out to view bald eagles.

The park is catching on in popularity and it has really boosted business in Battle Lake. Entrepreneurs are setting up shop in town and pumping some life into the local marketplace. Rental shops offer tourists various modes of transportation to enjoy the area. Click here for more about the park, including contact and reservation information.

On a related note, Saturday June 11 is National Get Outdoors Day and all 75 of Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas will offer free admission and special activities. Here is a link to more about that event.

While work continues at the Capitol this session, things were relatively quiet as far as bills reaching milestones in the process. A conference committee now has been formed to iron out differences between House and Senate versions of the supplemental omnibus bills we passed last week. Progress is being made on shaping bills on transportation, taxes and bonding, but they have not yet come to the floor for full votes.

Only two full weeks remain before we reach our May 23 adjournment, so things may come together in a hurry as we head down the home stretch. Look for more details soon.
