Nornes issues statement re: Fergus Falls kidnapping

Wednesday, July 25, 2018

FERGUS FALLS – State Rep. Bud Nornes, R-Fergus Falls, issued the following statement regarding the recent alleged abduction and rape of a Fergus Falls woman. Anthony Randklev of Pelican Rapids was apprehended following the incident and faces numerous charges. Randklev was convicted of a similar kidnapping and assault in 2008 and also has convictions for illegally possessing a firearm and failing to register as a predatory offender.

“I commend local law enforcement and citizens who stepped up to locate the victim and free her from her abductor before any more harm could be done,” Nornes said. “This is a horrific situation and we need to take a hard look at our system to make improvements as necessary to spare the public from risks certain offenders may present. The House has passed legislation the last couple of years to enhance penalties and increase supervision for sex offenders but, unfortunately, those bills haven’t reached enactment. Clearly, more needs to be done on this subject and we will continue investigating this broader issue so we can take additional steps as appropriate next session.”
