Rep. Liz Lee Delivered Keynote Address at SEIU Asian American and Pacific Islander Month Celebration

Monday, May 6, 2024

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Over the weekend, Representative Liz Lee (DFL-Saint Paul) joined members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham, and SEIU MNAI President Jamie Gulley to deliver a keynote address for their Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month Celebration.

"I was deeply honored to be invited by SEIU to deliver the keynote address at this year's AAPI Month Celebration because AAPI history, is undoubtedly both labor and American history,” said Rep. Lee. “SEIU's unwavering commitment to uplifting all workers inspires me. Together, we've fought for and passed critical bills that strengthen worker rights and consumer protections. These victories pave the way for better lives, not just for union members, but for all Minnesotans and their families. It's a testament to the collective power we hold when we unite for a common cause."

The SEIU AAPI Month Celebration is an annual event that brings together SEIU members, allies, and community leaders to celebrate the rich heritage and contributions of AAPI workers. During this year's celebration over 100 SEIU members, allies, and community leaders gathered for a day of cultural immersion and celebration. During the event, attendees had the opportunity to learn the Tibetan line-dance called ‘Gorshey’, led by a group of Tibetan youth performers. This interactive activity marked the first time the larger AAPI community in Minnesota was introduced to this vibrant dance form.
