Reps. Ward, Radinovich Encourage Constituents Struggling to Stay Warm This Winter to Visit "Stay Warm Minnesota" Website

Thursday, December 19, 2013

SAINT PAUL, MN — State Representatives John Ward and Joe Radinovich are encouraging Minnesotans who have a tough time staying warm and safe this winter-heating season to get information on the Stay Warm Minnesota web page at the Minnesota Department of Commerce website.

Helpful information on the Stay Warm Minnesota site includes financial assistance, energy efficiency, and heating safety programs provided by the federal and state government, private industry, nonprofits, and energy utilities. Links to nonprofit organizations and government sites are listed, along with publications and tips for saving energy.

“It’s only December and we’re already experiencing Wind Chill Warnings and subzero temperatures,” said Rep. Ward. “No Minnesotan should have to go without heat during our tough winters, regardless of financial situation. This website is a great resource to help Minnesotans ensure they stay warm this winter.”

For instance, information under “Finding Financial Assistance” describes the Cold Weather Rule and how customers can prevent having their heat turned off if they agree to and keep a payment plan with their utility. It also tells how consumers can apply with the state’s Energy Assistance Program, their utility, and charitable organizations to receive financial assistance to help pay their heating bills.

“I strongly encourage folks who need help or are looking for ways to be safe or more energy efficient to visit this website,” said Rep. Radinovich. “This has been an unusually cold winter already and we still have four months to go. We need to make sure everyone is safe and warm this winter.”

The Stay Warm Minnesota web page can be accessed online at http://mn.gov/commerce/energy/topics/resources/Stay-Warm-Minnesota/.
