Rep. Joe Radinovich Encourages Local Governments to Apply for Bonding Projects

Monday, June 10, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative Joe Radinovich (DFL – Crosby) is encouraging local governments and political subdivisions to file applications for bonding projects to be considered as part of next year's Capital Investment Bill.

Minnesota Management and Budget recently posted instruction and applications for bonding projects; the Governor and State Legislature will consider these bonding requests in the 2014 session.

“As your local representative, I will work to include any local application in the next bonding bill,” said Rep. Radinovich. “This is a great chance for our local governments to make requests for priority projects.”

The 2014 capital budget instructions can be found on the Minnesota Management and Budget website at http://www.mmb.state.mn.us/doc/budget/bud-op/op12/local-gov.pdf. The website summarizes the process and timelines, as well as provides the type of information local units need to include in a bonding request and the evaluation criteria.

The deadline for submissions is June 21, 2013.  Local units can e-mail submissions to: capitalbudget.mmb@state.mn.us.

In addition, Minnesota Management and Budget provides capital budget instructions for state agencies. These are broad categories of projects that go through a state agency: wastewater infrastructure, state park or trail funding, county or local historic preservation grants, higher education projects, and asset preservation.

“Submitting bonding projects and moving them through the review process increases the chance that a project will be included in the bonding bill,” added Radinovich. “Our state and area have a lot of public infrastructure needs and this is the first step toward ensuring our infrastructure can support our businesses and communities for years to come.”
