Rep. Joe Radinovich Introduces Bonding Bill for Cuyuna Lakes Trail

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — On Monday, state Representative Joe Radinovich (DFL – Crosby) introduced HF 1618, legislation that would appropriate 2.7 million in bonding money for acquisition and development of the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail.

The trail covers over twenty miles and will be an important link in the trail system of the central Minnesota Lakes region. The trail will eventually connect to the Paul Bunyan Trail in Brainerd/Baxter, while on the east, it will run to Aitkin generally following the Mississippi River and the Highway 210 corridors.

“The Cuyuna Lakes State Trail and the Cuyuna County State Recreation Area draw thousands of Minnesotans to our area every year,” said Rep. Radinovich. “Expanding our bike and trail program will serve to bring more people in, enhance our great tourism industry, and provide jobs and economic growth for our region.”

The bill is co-authored by Rep. John Ward (DFL – Baxter) and Rep. Alice Hausman (DFL – St. Paul), chair of the House Capital Investment Committee. Sen. Carrie Ruud (R – Breezy Point) is the chief author of the Senate companion bill.

“I’m pleased to be joined in this work by Rep. Ward, Sen. Ruud and Chair Hausman,” added Rep. Radinovich. “It’s my hope that by working together, we can get this included in the House and Senate bonding bills and signed into law.”
