Rep. Joe Radinovich Sworn-In as Legislative Session Begins

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — State Representative Joe Radinovich (DFL - Crosby) was officially sworn in as the state representative for District 10B as the 88th Legislative Session convened today at the State Capitol. Rep. Radinovichis beginning his first term in the Minnesota House of Representatives serving Crosby, Ironton, Cuyuna, McGregor, Tamerack, and Aitkin.

“I’m honored and humbled to be the voice of our communities at the State Capitol,” said Rep. Radinovich. “It’s true that the state of politics in Washington and St. Paul has left much to be desired in recent years, but I was always raised to believe that one can be a part of the problem or a part of the solution. I intend to be part of the solution during my time at the Capitol.”

Economic forecasts revealed early last month that lawmakers must tackle a $1.1 billion budget shortfall this year. When the money still owed to schools and inflation is included the shortfall rises to over $3 billion.

“Back in 1972, forward-looking legislators passed legislation that gave students educational opportunities no matter where they lived and established Local Government Aid to help towns and cities across greater Minnesota provide the type of infrastructure and services that would help communities grow and flourish — known as the Minnesota Miracle,” said Rep. Radinovich. “With the challenges we face today, we need the same forward-thinking, lasting solutions. We need a new Minnesota Miracle for the 21st century.”

Recognizing the difficult task ahead in balancing the state budget, Rep. Radinovich signaled a desire to work in a bipartisan fashion on a solution.

“While my party has control of both houses, I believe that we will not find the type of lasting solutions we need unless we involve the ideas of the minority, the consideration of urban, suburban, and rural populations, and the wisdom and common sense of the people,” added Rep. Radinovich. “I will work with all of my legislative colleagues, regardless of party.”

Much of that work will begin in legislative hearings throughout the coming weeks and months. This session Rep. Radinovich will serve on the Early Childhood and Youth Development Policy, Education Finance, and Housing Finance and Policy committees.

“I’m very pleased to be on these important committees,” said Rep. Radinovich. “Reforming our education system and ensuring that our young people have educational opportunities are two of my top priorities, and these committees give me an excellent chance to work closely on those issues.”

Throughout the legislative session, Rep. Radinovich encourages all constituents to contact him directly with any questions, comments, or concerns on any legislative issue. Rep. Radinovich can be reached by phone at (651) 296-2365 or by email at rep.joe.radinovich@house.mn.
