St. Paul, Minnesota — On Monday, April 28, state Representative John Ward (DFL – Baxter) received the Legislator of the Year award from the Central Minnesota School Counselors’ Association.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Rep. Ward. “As a former educator, I fully recognize the necessity and importance of having great counselors in our schools. I will continue to do all that I can to support our school counselors and ensure our students have them in their schools as an important resource.”

Alison Medeck from Forestview Middle School was selected as the Middle School Counselor of the Year.

“Alison won this award as a result of her dedication, her love of her students, and her passion for her job,” said Rep. Ward. “She has an incredible ability to collaborate with her colleagues and has done great work in her ongoing legislative advocacy to move the counselor profession forward.”

Forestview Middle School Assistant Principal Tammy Dewey received the Administrator of the Year Award.

“I had the joy of teaching with Tammy and know her to be an outstanding educator,” added Rep. Ward. “She has carried that great work into her work as an Assistant Principal. Tammy has shown strong support for our school counselors and is doing excellent work at Forestview.

“Congratulations to Alison and Tammy!”
