Rep. Ward Encourages Schools and Organizations to Apply for Delta Dental “Serve a Smile” Grants

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — State Representative John Ward is encouraging local schools and youth-serving community organizations to apply for grants from Delta Dental’s 11th annual “Serve a Smile” grant program.

Delta Dental has made available over $25,000 for mini grants of up to $1,000 to support a youth-led service/service-learning project that addresses an important oral health or health issue. The mini grants will be awarded to youth affiliated with schools and youth-serving community organizations in Minnesota, offering young people essential funds as they envision ways to create healthier schools and communities.

“It’s clear that good dental health is directly related to your health in general and it’s not just about a great smile; if your mouth is unhealthy, there’s a good chance the rest of your body is unhealthy as well,” said Rep. Ward. “By educating our young people about the importance of dental health, we can help them establish good habits that will last a lifetime, and save their parents from having to spend money on expensive fillings!

“This is a great program and a worthy cause, and I encourage our schools and community organizations to apply for these grants.”

An overview of the grant, project examples, and applications can all be found online at http://mnyouth.net/work/serve-a-smile/. Submissions due electronically by Friday, January 24th at 4 pm.
