Rep. John Ward Encourages Local Governments and Non-Profits to Apply for Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

ST. PAUL – State Representative John Ward (DFL – Baxter) is encouraging local governments and non-profits to apply for Conservation Partners Legacy grants (CPL), a process which opened recently. The CPL grant program funds conservation projects that restore, enhance, or protect forests, wetlands, prairies, and habitat for fish, game, and wildlife in Minnesota.

“These grants are a great opportunity for our local governments and non-profits to protect some of our excellent natural resources,” said Rep. Ward. “Over the last several years we’ve been able to restore and protect many beautiful outdoor areas in our region, like the recent purchase and protection of land on Upper Cullen Lake. But there’s more left to do. Restoring, enhancing and protecting these areas will keep them around for future generations and be great for hunting, fishing, hiking and just being in nature. I strongly encourage our local governments and non-profits to apply for these grants.”

Many of the requirements for this grant program are based on recommendations by the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council (LSOHC) to and approved by the Minnesota Legislature. These requirements were incorporated into the DNRs Conservation Partners Grant Program Accomplishment Plan as approved by the LSOHC.
