State Representative John Ward Receives “A” Grade, Named a ‘Champion for Racial Justice’ by Organizing Apprenticeship Project

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

(ST. PAUL) — State Representative John Ward (DFL – Baxter) received an “A” grade on his Racial Equity Report Card from the Organizing Apprenticeship Project and received a “Racial Justice Champion” award today. The Organizing Apprenticeship Project named Rep. Ward as a champion for racial equity for his efforts in addressing racial equity during the 2012 Legislative Session.

Rep. Ward was named a champion for sponsoring, co-sponsoring and supporting legislation in 2012 that would have had a positive impact on racial disparities in education, health, or the economic status of communities of color.

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized as a Racial Justice Champion,” said Rep. Ward. “I look forward to continue working with communities of color in leading for equity and implementing community-created solutions that make Minnesota stronger. It is important for all of us to look to solutions and to lead for equity and opportunity in our state. Racial disparities remain far too prevalent in Minnesota especially in education, but they need not be made permanent.”
