REP. FRITZ STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR DAYTON’S REVISED BUDGET PROPOSALS

Thursday, March 14, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN –Governor Dayton announced changes to his budget proposal earlier today, dropping his sales and business tax plan and removing his $500 property tax rebate.

Rep. Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) released the following statement:

“I am pleased to see that plans to expand sales taxes to new services and clothing are no longer being pursued.  We need to end the cycle of deficit spending that has occurred for eight of the last ten years and responsibly balance the budget through sensible financial measures.  The business-to-business tax proposals faced a lot of scrutiny from local businesses and have been taken out of the proposal.  As we work to move Minnesota into the future, keeping our state economically strong and competitive must be the focus.

“Property tax relief is very important to those of us in Greater Minnesota.  Though the governor has dropped his property tax rebate plans, I am hopeful that we will be able to provide some kind of property tax relief to homeowners and renters.  Property taxes have increased 85% over the last decade and we must work to address this problem for Minnesotans.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Governor Dayton, fellow legislators and members of our community on proposals to move our state forward and to put forth a balanced and responsible budget.”
