ST. PAUL, MN –Today, the House passed Medical Assistance Expansion, HF 9, on a 71-56 vote. This bill will expand health care coverage to an estimated 40,000 low-income uninsured Minnesotans. The federal government will pay 100 percent of the costs of the program until 2016, phasing down to 90 percent after 2020.
State Representative Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) released the following statement:
“Medicaid expansion will save the state more than $1 billion by 2015. It is a great opportunity to take advantage of federal funding to expand health care coverage to an additional 40,000 uninsured Minnesotans and is a win-win for the state. The expansion will help more Minnesotans get the care they need from local clinics and hospitals.”
