HOUSE BONDING PROPOSAL INVESTS IN FARIBAULT AREA PROJECTS

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN—Today, the House released major bonding legislation.  The House bonding proposal includes measures authored by Rep. Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) to provide building improvements to the Minnesota Academy for the Deaf in Faribault.

“These bonding dollars will provide new residence hall design for the school for the deaf,” said Fritz.  “I have toured the academy and these improvements are greatly needed.”

The bill also includes funding for the Remembering with Dignity program, another initiative authored by Rep. Fritz.  This program honors those who lived and died in state institutions by matching unmarked graves with names, date of birth and date of death.

“This program helps to gather life stories of people with disabilities and those who were institutionalized,” commented Fritz.  “It is important that we remember these individuals that at some point were forgotten or neglected.”

Bonding projects improve state infrastructure and boost economic growth.  Interest rates are historically low (2.06%) and now is a cost effective time to bond.  Bonding dollars are responsible for the South Central College expansion, which breaks ground on April 19th.  Rep. Fritz helped to secure bonding dollars for this project last year.

“I am grateful to have worked to secure funding to improve our Faribault campus,” said Fritz.  “Bonding is a cost effective way to improve local infrastructure and accomplish big projects.”
