St. Paul, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed SF 1 providing health insurance premium relief for Minnesotans. The measure also radically changes the health insurance system in Minnesota by allowing for-profit insurers to operate in the state.
Representative Clark Johnson (DFL-North Mankato) released the following statement:
“I am glad relief will be going out to Minnesota families soon. It is disappointing relief is tied to allowing for-profit HMOs to operate in Minnesota. Sometimes you have to compromise to get the job done. The premium relief is a short term solution for 2017. We need long term solutions and I will be working hard to pass legislation allowing Minnesotans to purchase MinnesotaCare on the individual market. That's a long term solution that will give people a good option to get more affordable quality health care.”
