The two newest House members will be chosen Feb. 4, 2020.

The 2020 legislative session is scheduled to begin Feb. 11.

When members reconvene that day, two will have been on the job for less than a week.

Gov. Tim Walz announced Wednesday that special elections to fill vacancies in Districts 30A and 60A will be Feb. 4.

Rep. Nick Zerwas (R-Elk River) will resign from his District 30A seat Dec. 6.

The District 60A seat became open when Rep. Diane Loeffler (DFL-Mpls) passed away Nov. 16.

Candidates looking to run in either district must file between Dec. 3 and Dec. 10.

If needed, a District 30A primary would occur Jan. 14; one in District 60A would take place Jan. 21, a date Walz indicated would better accommodate the large student population in the district.
