LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM REP. ERIK MORTENSEN - DISTRICT 55A

Friday, February 18, 2022

Friday, February 18th, 2022 --

Ding Dong, the Capitol Mask Mandate is DEAD!! After having lead the mask mandate resistance for the last 3 weeks in St. Paul, Speaker Hortman finally realized the futility of her anti-science mandate and we forced her to end it! And this is exactly how unlawful and useless mandates are destroyed – by not complying.

We had our first maskless floor session on Thursday this week and I could not wait to see who still felt wearing a mask was necessary because, of course, the Speaker still strongly encouraged that members and staff wear masks, and wouldn’t you know it, even Speaker Hortman refused to wear a mask! So somehow we are supposed to believe that when I was maskless on Monday this week, I was a threat to everyone’s health, but when the Speaker was maskless on Thursday, everything was just fine.

These people are complete frauds.

In addition to this, Speaker Hortman also set a date for the State Office Building (SOB) to be opened once again to the public. Beginning Monday, March 21st the SOB will be open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00 – 4:30 pm. Of course it should have never been closed in the first place being that it is paid for by your tax dollars, but nevertheless, we are excited to welcome you back into YOUR building. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and schedule an in-person appointment.

And on a national scale, we are continuing to press forward and make headway in the battle against the false COVID narrative that the left has been pushing for years now. In a Press Briefing by White House Covid Response Team and Public Health Officials, Mr. Zients recently stated “we’re moving toward a time when Covid isn’t a crisis.”

REDISTRICTING

This week the courts released the new House and Senate district maps. I am now in District 54A and the boundaries have shifted a little. IF you are not sure which district you are in, click on this link and enter your address to find out.

PEOPLE OVER POLITICIANS ACT

I have been talking about this bill for some time now and am excited that it was introduced on Monday this week. You can find the language here.

As a refresher, this bill essentially makes the state income tax voluntary. It shrinks the size of government by 25 percent and gives power back to the people by allowing them to decide (rather than some bureaucrat in St Paul) where they would like their hard-earned tax dollars to be spent.

LEGISLATIVE TOWNHALL

Thank you to all those who tuned into my townhall yesterday. As I mentioned before, I will be holding these monthly both virtually and in person. This is a great opportunity for you to have your questions answered. You can watch the townhall here.

Remember if you want to be politically respected you must be politically feared,

Erik Mortensen

State Representative, 55A
