Rep. Greenman Statement on GOP Efforts to Restrict the Freedom to Vote

Monday, April 26, 2021

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Rep. Emma Greenman (DFL – Minneapolis) issued the following statement in response to the State Government and Elections bill that the Minnesota Senate approved today:

“In 2020, 3.3 million people from every corner of the state participated in our election - a record number. In response, Senate Republicans now are attempting to erect unnecessary barriers that undermine Minnesota’s proud tradition of voter participation. Today, they voted for a bill that would effectively end Same Day Registration, cut resources for election security, and impair election administration by needlessly politicizing the role of local election judges.

“Limiting access to the ballot box undermines our democracy and harms all Minnesotans, especially people of color, seniors, young people, and new Americans. While the Senate Republican majority works to restrict Minnesotans’ freedom to vote, House DFLers are working to defend and strengthen voter participation and people-powered democracy. We are fighting to ensure that all Minnesotans can participate in our democracy - no matter where they live, what they look like, or who they vote for.”
