Rep. Greenman statement regarding insurrection in Washington, D.C.

Thursday, January 7, 2021

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – State Rep. Emma Greenman (DFL – Minneapolis) issued the following statement following Wednesday’s insurrection at the United States Capitol:

“Yesterday’s attack on our Capitol in Washington, D.C. was an attack on our democracy, fueled by a president who refuses to accept the will of voters, the rule of law, and a peaceful transition of power. But it did not happen overnight. The encouragement of some and the silence of many sowed seeds of division and violence that were fueled by misinformation and conspiracy theories. The violent attack seen in D.C. and amplified in Minnesota is the result of years of intentional efforts to undermine faith in our government and the will of the people in our democracy. As Minnesotans and Americans, we must condemn what happened yesterday and hold accountable those who spread, provoke, and fan the flames of violence and insurrection. And we must all be committed to do the work to repair and strengthen our embattled democracy.”
