RELEASE: Rep. Kaela Berg Votes For, House Passes the 100% by 2040 bill, Directly Tackling Climate Change

Friday, January 27, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Last night, the Minnesota House passed HF 7, the 100% Clean Electricity by 2040 bill, requiring that the state’s utilities use entirely carbon-free sources for electricity production by 2040. Rep. Kaela Berg (DFL - Burnsville) co-authored and voted for the legislation.

“I was happy to vote for this bill and move Minnesota forward in our fight against climate change,” said Rep. Berg.  “Our friends in labor have spoken about the potential here for clean energy, family-sustaining jobs throughout Minnesota. This is not only good for our environment but good for our economy too.”

This bill removes barriers to setting up carbon-free and renewable power sources and invests in green energy jobs right here in Minnesota. This would put Minnesota on track with over twenty other states that have also adopted similar goals.

The Senate Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate Committee passed the bill yesterday, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the bill into law.
