Rep. Cedrick Frazier statement on United Auto Workers Tentative Agreement

Tuesday, October 31, 2023

Saint Paul, MN- On October 30, 2023, General Motors and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union reached a tentative agreement, ending a six-week strike at the automaker's plants across the United States. The agreement was reached following intense negotiations between the two parties, and it is a testament to their commitment to working together to achieve a fair and equitable outcome.

Rep. Cedrick Frazier (DFL- New Hope), Co-Chair of the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus, released the following statement:

“The UAW contract agreement with General Motors is a significant victory for American workers, including the thousands of hard-working Minnesotans who are members of the union. I commend both GM and the UAW for their commitment to reaching a fair and equitable agreement. This new contract is a testament to the power of unions to humanize workplaces and ensure that workers have living wages, benefits, and safe working conditions.” When we fight we win!"

The tentative agreement includes a number of significant gains for UAW members, including a 25% wage increase over the course of the four-and-a-half-year contract, as well as cost-of-living adjustments. The agreement also eliminated the two-tier wage system, which had created two classes of workers with different pay and benefits. The tentative agreement also includes a number of other provisions that will improve the lives of UAW members, such as increased investment in job training and safety programs, and new protections for workers who are injured on the job.
